- 多环芳香烃是指含有苯环的化合物，是最早被认识的化学致癌物，PAHs在工业上基本无生产和使用价值，它只是在生产过程中形成的有害副产物。

- 德德国技术设备及消费品委员会 (AtAV)于 2007年11月20日通过决议ZEK 01-08（2011年11月已经更新为ZEK01.4-08），要求在GS认证中强制加入PAHs测试。该项规定于2008年4月1日生效，届时所有GS标志认证机构将开始加测PAHs项目。

- 高风险材料：黑色或深色，柔软的聚合体以及油漆，涂料等是含有PAHs的高风险材料。

•2014年8月，德国产品安全委员会AfPS发布一份新的关于GS认证的PAH的评估测试程序AfPS GS 2014:01 PAK。和ZEK01.4-08相比较，最大的变化在于限值和范围的不同。新要求将从2015年7月1日起强制实施。
