Description of content: The Republic of Korea is added as a fire blight occurring country in the "Quarantine Requirements for the Importation of Plants or Plant Products". The entire or any part of the host plants (excluding fruits and seeds) are prohibited to be imported into our territory. The importation of fresh fruits of the host plants shall be accompanied by the phytosanitary certificate issued by the Korean competent authority and stating that the fruits have been thoroughly inspected and found free from Erwinia amylovora.

Nature of the urgent problem(s) and reason for urgent action: Fire blight (Erwinia amylovora) is a destructive disease and listed as a regulated pest in the "Quarantine Requirements for The Importation of Plants or Plant Products". According to the official report of the Republic of Korea, the presence of Erwinia amylovora was detected for the first time in the Republic of Korea on pear trees (Pyrus sp.) in May 2015. In order to prevent the introduction of Erwinia amylovora into our territory, it is necessary to add the Republic of Korea as the infested country of the pest and take appropriate measures immediately.
