Description of content: Pre-Packaged Food (Labelling) Regulations 2005 prohibits sales of unlabelled pre-packaged food intended for sale to consumer. It also declares that pre-packaged food should not be falsely described and must bear certain information that depicts the exact name of the food or coined/fanciful name that is not misleading. It stipulates that label of pre-packaged food must declare list of ingredients, date marking instructions, batch number, storage conditions, net content, name, address and country of manufacturer, trademark and NAFDAC Registration Number.
The label of Pre-packaged food must be clear, legible and in English Language.
The Regulations stipulates penalties for violators. It contains interpretation of sensitive terms and two schedules: Schedule one is the classes of food while schedule 2 contains Classes of Food additives.
This Regulation repealed the Pre-Packaged Food (Labelling) Regulations 1995.
